Tabula rasa

Step back into the darkness.

Leave the night behind.

Pull the cowl of night about your face.

For the images are harsh

But there’s some comfort for the blind,

Just knowing that the blinkers are in place.

Step back into the silence

And cover up your ears.

Be glad you can eliminate the sound.

Withhold communication,

Unhitch it from your fears.

Lay all unwanted words upon the ground.

Step back into your memory.

Make contact with the past.

Reject the driving certainty of now.

Breathe in the scent of history,

Of times you wished would last.

Retrieve your sense of innocence somehow.
