Broken Stem

The broken stem no longer holds the flower

Proudly to face the sun,

To feel the warmth,

To feed its creeping hunger.

Careless feet kicked through here

Causing mayhem

But not pausing.

Destruction didn’t register with the boot,

Its leather thick and unwieldy.

No amount of splinting will suffice.

You might as well display the dying flower

In a vase.
